HyperCD – Web Enabled Discs
HyperCD, VoucherCD and On-line Voucher Systems are a collection of technologies designed as tools for increasing a brand’s on line equity.
HyperCD allows DVD quality music and video content on a disc to play ONLY within a target web site. It provides DVD quality video, whatever the user’s bandwidth, securely protects the copyright of the content and automatically takes the user to the target site.
Release of content on the CD can be controlled by the web site and standard web tools can audit who's watched what and when allowing for exact viewing figures and data. This is perfect for media rich on-line training, marketing and research purposes.
Outside of a website connection, an “encrippled” CD or DVD is inert: the content cannot be viewed. When the crucial bit of meta data is placed behind existing firewall's and security passwords it becomes a most powerful content security package. It is so secure that the US Army have used it as part of their on-line training which includes high quality restricted mpeg1 content.
We have used this technology on projects for Manchester United, Liverpool Football Club, Amex, Madonna and the Corrs to push users to online purchases. The average conversion rate of discs viewed is impressive.
Benefits
HyperCD seems to answer the four main issues for media rich (DVD quality) e-training: bandwidth, security, platform compatibility and control.
First it eliminates bandwidth issues for watching moving images. Because the meta-data slice is so small, the technology works over the slowest dial up connection.
Second, it provides an answer to many content security and unauthorized distribution problems and protects content copyright. The “encrippled” data cannot be used independently of the web link. Thus any disc with corporately sensitive or commercially valuable content found on the street is protected. Of course the discs can be copied but the user would still have to connect to the designated web site to view.
Thirdly, it is software agnostic. The technology is simply a way of separating a slice of a file and thus works on any browser (Explorer, Netscape, AOL) or computer type (Windows or Macintosh).
Fourthly, because the critical bit is on a web site, it is at the web site that control of content presides. The meta-data can be withdrawn or activated, be made available for certain users, may require any level of password security or none. Perhaps the content must be paid for by credit card on a minute by minute, hour by hour viewing.
These advantages, for the first time, make possible a high quality media rich Direct Marketing platform in which video content plays within a target web environment.

We can now have each CD identified with a unique serial number it is possible to
- automatically identify each individual user with even greater accuracy and record who looks at what, where and when and
- precisely control usage of content according to client defined protocols
